Jimmy Doherty was this years Hall of Fame winner and boy what a deserving man. This page is too short to outline Jimmy's contribution both on the sideline as Bainisteoir and off it in developing the facilities on view today. Jimmy gave the Club his all taking us to Division one, Intermediate Champions, Senior Championship football and acted as Chairman and Club Uachtarán. A humble man who has achieved much in his life and it was great to see Jimmy on the stage last night receiving this great Honour. Although he has returned to the quieter game of golf "far from the madding crowd"...Jimmy is still around us in the oft heated GAA scene . Comhghairdeachas leat a Jimmy, tá sé tuillte go maith agat. As some of our members may be aware that there was a Motion at our AGM
to change the name of our club to CLG Naomh Muire, Íochtar Na Rosann, or Naomh Muire GAA club, Lower Rosses. The reason is that the name Naomh Mhuire is incorrect in the Irish Language. A debate took place with some members saying that the our name should not be changed as it has been in place for the last 30 years. Both sides argued their case at the AGM, and a private ballot was taken on the motion. As the motion means changing our Club Constitution a two third majority was required in order for the motion to be carried. The result of the ballot was For the Change 20 votes, Against the Change 6 votes. This was above the required majority and after an Club Executive meeting in January, we have notified County Committee of the change in our name. Officially as of now our club is to be known as CLG Naomh Muire, Íochtar Na Rosann, with English version as Naomh Muire GAA Club, Lower Rosses. Our address is Mullach Dearg, Cionn Caslach, Leitir Ceannain, Co Dhún Na nGall. We as members can continue to wear our old crested Club Colours with pride and any change to club crest will be phased in when new Jerseys or leisure wear is required. Is mise le meas Declan Ó'Mairtín An Runaí. |
