Naomh Muire U-16's Pride of place tonight is for our u-16s who are now in a Divisional final and hence a County Semi-Final. Their victory over Ardara tonight by 0-10 to 0-7 came exactly one week after they were slaughtered in Kilcar in what was a horrible result in so many ways. Gary and Sean got their troops re-grouped and this resulted in a historic win against Kilcar....last years County finalists...on Sunday night. That set up tonight's match against the fancied Ardara. The first half was a point for point affair until Naomh Mhuire went two ahead just before the break. The second half was a great display of sheer determination, strength, teamwork at its best...and when needed quality finishing. There was only going to be one winner and although Ardara were always a threat....this was without doubt as good a controlled performance you could see. Total teamwork now sets up a Divsional final against the Aodh Ruadh club in Dunkineely next Monday night. Our U-16s are now in the last 4 of a County Championship in the Premier competition but a last 4 is not something they are happy with accepting so lets see what happens next. The U-16's came out on top this evening in Glentiies where they defeated a strong Kilcar side by six points. The game went to extra time after it finished all square in normal time. An early goal in the first few minutes for the Rosses side proved the spring board for success.
Having lost heavily to Kilcar in the second leg last Monday night....they faced them again this evening in a play off in Glenties. Many club supporters came back from Burt to Glenties as the lads set out to put what was a testing week behind. The match was end to end stuff and point for point throughout.....with a minute left Naomh Mhuire led Kilcar by a point. Kilcar however broke up the field and equalised bringing the match into extra time. There was only one team in extra time as our young lads superior fitness and will to win was too much for the young brave Kilcar side. Two goals in each period of extra time....one a scorcher by young Jack Boyle, Belcruit making his debut at only 14.....saw the Naomh Mhuire side knock out last years County finalists. The boys now play Ardara on Tuesday night in the Div Semi-final in Dunkineely with a throw-in time of 7.30. This was an outstanding victory for Sean Mc Fadden and Gary Boyle's young side. These lads have put in hours of indoor work in the Aislann during the winter as well as great outdoor work and by beating Kilcar in a Div 1 Championship match...they have put down a huge statement of where hard work gets you. Well done lads and Good luck on Tuesday evening. Naomh Muire 3-13 Kilcar 0-10. Under 16 County Championship. Great win by our young lads tonight in the banks against last years County finalists Cill Chartha. Playing with a stiff breeze, the young Naomh Muire lads took control early on and were looking good at half time . Kilcar looked like they were going to get back into and reduced the lead to 4 points but half way through the second half Naomh Muire found another gear and ran out easy winners in the end. The second leg is in Kilcar and it won't be easy. Kilcar will be hard to beat at home but tonight's result shows that all the hard work that these lads have put in works at the highest level possible. Well done lads now heads down and finish it off next week. Following the great result by the Seniors and reserves on Monday....The Naomh Muire Under 16s went up to Kilcar and beat a fancied Kilcar side very well with young Sean Mc Cafferty scoring 1-10.
The U-16s who have already beaten Ardara in division 1 of this league and these are great performances which means there is a steady stream of young determined lads coming through the ranks who are only years away from Senior football. They next game is against Four Masters in the Banks on Monday night and are well worthy of our support. Well done to team mentors Gary Boyle, Sean Mc Fadden and Timmy Mc Bride. Naomh Mhuire faced the long trip to Bundoran on Sunday morning for their div 1 league game against Bundoran. With both teams having won 2 of their opening three league games it was always going to be a close game and so it proved. Naomh Mhuire started extremely well and raced into an early 2 point lead with some great running of the ball. They also hit the crossbar and were denied another goal chance by the bundoran keeper. Bundoran 1st score was a goal from their big midfielder and they then got a point. Naomh Mhuire looked dangerous in attack and kept the scoreboard ticking over with good play from the full-forward line and good support play from Hugh Boyle, Jamie Boyle, Patrick Rodgers and also Sean Burns who never stopped running all game. The half-time score was Bundoran 1-07 to Naomh Mhuire 0-10 points after some great scores from both teams. The 2nd half was nip and tuck until the impressive james ferry scored a goal to give Naomh Mhuire the lead. However Bundoran responded with a goal of their own. Bundoran then got a penalty that seemed to be well outside the box to go 5 points clear. Naomh Mhuire then got another goal from Ferry again to get Naomh Mhuire back in the game. Bundoran then stretched their lead out to 4 points with 5 minutes remaining. Naomh Mhuire pushed hard and got 2 great scores from Jamie Boyle and a 45 from Sean mc Cafferty to leave 2 points in it with only a couple of mins left. Naomh Mhuire then won another free which drifted just wide. With the game in injury time, Naomh Mhuire won another kick-out and another free-kick. The ball was played in high and was punched goalwards by a Naomh Mhuire forward but just missed the far post. Overall, a good sporting game which was well refereed by Liam Browne. Naomh Mhuire had a good team display with Sean Burns, James Ferry and Sean mc Cafferty excellent throughout. On another day, Naomh Mhuire could easily have come away with the spoils and they nearly stole the points at the end. They played until the final whistle which is a good quality this team have.
Naomh Mhuire: Gerald Boyle, Conor Boyle, Patrick Rodgers, Adam o Brien, Patrick Gillespie, Cameron Harley, Sean Burns, Jack o Brien 0-1, Jamie Boyle 0-1, Daniel Sharkey, Hugh Boyle 0-1, James Ferry 2-04, Sean mc Cafferty 0-5, Darren Sweeney, Ryan o Donnell, Jack mc Devitt, Michael mc Bride, Ciaran Harden, Ronan Duffy Although the Senior and reserves did really well today to kick start their season with a bang.....Pride of place today goes to the Club under 16 side who beat Ardara by a point. This is to top flight...Divison 1 of the league and having already beaten Killybegs, this is another big club scalp especially as the side were criticised correctly for poor discipline last week in their game with Dungloe. They answered like men today and although down by 5 points coming into the last ten minutes, they pointed their way back with a display of controlled and disciplined football out of the top drawer against a strong Ardara side. It was a pleasure to watch this game today and Gary Boyle, Sean Mc Fadden and Timmy McBride have once again put together a side which has set a standard within the club....be proud.....be very proud.
