Minors continue with Good win in Glenties.
Naomh Conaill v Naomh Mhuire Report Date : 25/03/2013 20:21 Today in a very cold Davey Brennan park Naomh Mhuire were the visitors who were protecting a perfect start to the season with 2 games played and 2 wins recorded. Naomh Conaill themselves had only played 1 game before this contest and also recorded a 3 point victory over Naomh Columba. The home team playing with the wind in the first half recorded the first score of the match on 10 minutes through a free from Ciaron Thompson.Number 14 for Naomh Mhuire Sean McCafferty levelled with a free from distance.Charlie McGuiness then put Naomh Conaill ahead again with a well taken point from play with Ethan Odonnell following up quickly with another score from play to extend the Glenties mens lead to 2 points. A big moment in the halve as Naomh Mhuires James Ferry beat the Glenties keeper Owen McGettigan for the first goal of the game and put the visitors in the lead for the first time in the match 1-1 to 3 points. McGuiness scored a fine point in the middle of 2 frees from the boot of McCafferty 1-5 to 3 points to Naomh Mhuire at this stage in the game. Time running out Thompson stood up to the mark and dragged his team back into the contest with 2 points to leave the half time score 1-5 to 0-5 in favour of Naomh Mhuire. Two minutes into the second halve and a hammer blow to Naomh Conaill as a penalty was awarded against them and dually converted by the very cool McCafferty to leave 6 points between the sides again. County Minor captain Patrick Gillespie then got on the score sheet with a well taken point and at this stage of the match it was looking a very tall order for the home team to get back into the game but get back into it is what they done with a brilliant move to set Kevin McGettigan through as the Naomh Conaill center back crashed the ball to the back of the net and leave four points between the sides 2-6 to 1-5. The impressive Jack Boyle eased a bit of pressure to put them 5 points up again and with time running out Thompson and Odonnell added further points for Naomh Conaill but it was to little to late as the final whistle blew. Final Score Naomh Conaill 1-07, Naomh Mhuire 2-07. Verdict: A game in which the wind played a factor Naomh Mhuire with that half time lead would hoped to kick on in the second half and win comfortably with the wind behind their backs but Naomh Conaill never gave up and were far better in the second half than the first.Their was enough in this game to suggest when these teams meet in the championship it will be a very tight match. Man of the Match - Some excellent performances from Naomh Conaills Ciaran Thompson and who battled hard with Patrick Gillespie and Jack Boyle from Naomh Mhuire but Sean McCafferty from Mhuire was excellent not only in his free taken but his all round play deserves the award. Michael McShane refereed the game and had a good match in the middle. Minor Championship - Naomh Mhuire 2-11 v Naomh Conaill 1-04 In what can be described only as a top drawer second half performance the young Naomh Muire minors beat the visiting Glenties side in the Banks tonight. Having been beaten in the first leg two weeks ago in Glenties, Naomh Muire had to win tonight to force a play-off. Playing with a strong breeze in the first half, the lads missed quite a few scorable points and paid the price when Naomh Conaill broke upfield and netted leaving only a 3 point lead to Naomh Muire at half time. Naomh Conaill, managed by Donegal star Leo McLoone came out in determined mood in the second half but were met by a Naomh Muire side playing a much faster and intense game. The young tigers of the Lower Rosses put on a display of strength, teamwork and support play that was a delight to watch and the visitors were simply no match as the lads took full control . Brian Grant pulled off two great saves and his defence were outstanding when Naomh Conaill threatened. This was an entire team display at its very best and the lads will take this confidence with them into what will be a tough play-off against one of the county's top minor sides. The play-off next week will be another night and another challenge but the home crowd saw a great performance by a side managed by Sean Mc Fadden, Timmy Mc Bride and Gary Boyle. A huge congrats to all management and players and a big support will no doubt make it to the play-off. The minors will begin their division 1 league campaign when they entertain St.Johns ( Killybegs and Naomh Ultan) in the banks this Thursday evening at 5.45pm.
The minors continued their preparations for the season with a good challenge against a strong Termon side. The game was keenly contested with plenty of good challenges and Termon responded with 3 points of their own to leave the half-time score 3 points apiece. In the 1st minute pf the 2nd half Termon scored a goal to take the lead. Naomh Mhuire responded well and got scores from Sean mc Cafferty and a James Ferry goal after good work from Sean Burns and David Coyle. Further scores from Hugh Boyle and Sean Mc Cafferty with further goals from Sean mc Cafferty and Sean Burns. Termon kept battling and pressing and they scored a late goal. Sean Burns finished the scoring with another point. A very worth-while friendly with good commitment from both sides and every ball well contested. Best for Naomh Mhuire were Brian Grant in goals who made some excellent saves, Marti Walker, Hugh Boyle and Sean Burns. All Naomh Mhuire scores came from play.
