The under 14 boys div 1 league game against Na Rossa was called off this evening as the Na Rossa pitch was flooded. This game will be re-scheduled for a later date. The boys have 2 league games left, at home to Naomh Conaill and away to Na Rossa. They palyed a friendly against St. Michaels on Monday evening last and will return the favour and travel to St.michaels next Monday evening for another game. A successful coaching week was held in the banks last week. 92 children from the ages of 5 - 13 took part in the week which was aimed at developing and improving skills. As well as our own club coaches who helped out throughout the week, Tomas Duffy, Sean the yank, Dara White, Aidi O Gara, Sinead Sweeney, Deirdre McCafferty and Ita Boyle, Danny O Donnell put the older groups through their paces on Tuesday and on Friday John McConnell from the Ardara club did likewise. Thanks to all the coaches who helped make the week a success and especially to John and Danny who gave up their time. On Friday, Donegal corner-back Frank McGlynn visited the banks and signed tops and got photos taken with all the kids. Thanks to Frank for coming down. The week was kindly sponsored by Tradalaí Eisc Uí Hannagain Teoranta. They sponsored club t-shirts for each participant that took part in the week. A massive thanks to them and their support is very much appreciated. And finally thanks to all the children who took part in the week and showed great enthusiasm and energy and made the week a good one. See you all in 2012. The under 10 team will train on Tuesday and Friday evenings @ 6pm for the next few weeks instead of Saturday mornings. The next under 10 Blitz is in the banks on Saturday week August 20th. The under 12s will train next on Monday evening at 6.45 in the banks.
The annual trip to Croke Park for underage groups 10-16, boys and girls teams, will be to the Kerry v Mayo All-Ireland semi-final on Sunday August 21st. Kerry are the most successful team in GAA History and the chance to see Colm "Gooch" Copper and his exciting Kerry team play the determined and hard working Mayo lads will be a treat day out for all. No doubt the bus will be split on who they are supporting on the day and the usual guess the score should be good craic. Full details will be given to all under age teams from u-10 to u-16 by their team managers this week. Buses will leave Annagry around 8am and the fee for children will once again be €5 which covers both bus and match ticket. Mentors and parents who accompany will pay €10 in total. Watch this space and club notes for updates but team managers will have details by the weekend. Players trained and worked hard at their skills this year so the trip to Croke Park is a small recognition for that. Anyone wanting to go on the trip should ring or text Gary 0863546193 to book their seat. Comhghairdeas to Robbie O'Donnell who was appointed to referee the All-Ireland Minor semi-final (Dublin v Galway) on the 28th of August. This game will preceed the senior game where Donegal will take on the Dubs. The Ladies U-14, U-16 and supporters wish him and his umpires the best of luck. A great honour indeed. Well done to the U-16 girls on a fine victory tonight against Cloich Cheann Fhaola in the Banks. A great team effort from eveyone. Great team of young footballers, playing good open passing game and scoretaking of the highest degree. Ladies football in our club is getting stronger. Nice to see a good crowd suppporting the young girls. The Intermediate Championship comes to the Banks this Saturday evening when Naomh Muire take on Naomh Colmcille at 7p.m. Naomh Colmcille have progressed to the quater final stage with a two legged win over Carndonagh, the most recent being a 2-12 to 1-07 win in Carndonagh. The visitors have a good away record in the league losing out narrowly in a number of games as well as recording good away victories and so will no doubt be tough opposition this weekend. Naomh Muire have been going well in the league and will hope to bring this form into the championship where a home win will be important booster for the return leg in Newtown. Once again, throw in is at 7pm, come out and support the lads this Saturday evening. Go raibh maith agaibh. The Ladies will not have a game now on Wednesday since Bundoran cannot field a team. This means they have 10 points out of 10 in their League Section. They have now qualified for the League final. The County Board will meet tonight to set the venue and opponents for the final. Comhghairdeas Ladies, lets push on and win the final. The photos from the coaching week are now available to view in the gallery section of the website. Thanks to Bríd Sweeney for the pictures. Click here to view the photos. For the first time ever in the Naomh Muire club's 31 year history we have made it to a Div 1 County Championship final having beaten the fancied McCumhaills in Glenfin this evening. Having won the Northern Division and being talked about as possible county champions, MacCumhaills were always going to be strong opponents ......and so they were. However they were playing a young Naomh Muire who have beaten Kilcar, Ardara and drew with Aodh Ruadh to get this far and this has been done with a work ethic and great fitness together with some great football. Tonight they surpassed even those high standards and showed great determination after losing their full back and captain Patrick Rodgers to a very harsh red card. The lads went down by a point after losing young Patrick but then drove into another gear to draw level right on full time. Then with only seconds remaining the sheer fighting spirit of this team showed through and the winning point brings our proud club into a first County final at the top grade. This game wasn't won tonight ...it was won over the winter months in the Aislann and the effort since.......and effort that tonight showed its results. The strength and determination of this team is a great example of what is possible. Well done to mentors Gary, Sean and Timmy and all the squad, each of who contributed on and off the pitch. http://www.donegaldaily.com/2011/08/09/gaa-u16-county-semi-final/ |
