Photos from the Under 16 Girls' challenge game with Naomh Columba are also available in the U-16's section. After last years very successful school blitz the club will be holding 2 national school blitzes in the Banks in June. The first blitz takes place on Wednesday June the 8th and is for children in 2nd and 3rd class. Then on Wednesday 15th June the children from 4th, 5th and 6th classes will compete for the Eamonn mc Bride cup for the boys and the Eamonn mc Bride shield for the girls. Last year the boys competition was won by Ranafast and the girls competition was won by Annagry. Who will come out on top this year? Will we have new winners or will Ranafast and Annagry defend their trophies. This will bring an end to the schools coaching for the year where our schools coach Robbie has been visiting our schools on a weekly basis and doing great work in the schools.
The 3rd week of the Schools Summer league continue this Thursday at the earlier time of 4.30. All players to be there for 4.30 start as the u14 girls are playing at 5.45 on the pitch.
Naomh Mhuire under 12s made the journey to Glen this evening to play in the latest round of Games. A strong squad of 24 travelled and there were 2 games played on the night. Two excellent performances from both teams on the night. Best on the night for Naomh Mhuire were Odhran Rodgers, Eugene Byrne, Declan Ward, Donnchadh Casey, Mark mc Gee, Declan mc Cready and Jason Gillespie. U14 Girls: Naomh Muire v Naomh Conaill in the Banks @ 5:40pm. The girls face county feile champions Naomh Conaill in a top of the table league clash. Both teams are unbeaten in the league and something has to give this Thursday. Please come down and support the girls and roar them on to victory. Senior Ladies: Naomh Muire v Red Hughs (Junior Championship - 2nd Leg) @ 7:30pm The reserves gave a lesson in scoring in poor conditions by beating Na Dunaibh reserves 4-9 to 1-7.
At the break Naomh Muire led 2-5 to 0-3 and once the visitors got their third goal early in the second half the game was over as a contest. A late Maxi Curran goal from the penalty spot was nothing but consolation for Na Dúnaibh. Best for Downings were Bryan Mc Ginley and Micheal Bradley while Shaun J Boyle scored 3-6 of Naomh Muire's total playing a leading role in another really good reserve performance. Although conditions were poor, the ball handling and control was really good from the young reserves who had wee Johnny Gallagher back in action tonight. 1 SHANE GREEN 2.THOMAS DEVENNEY 3. Naomh Mhuire Seniors came out of Downings tonight with a share of the points to remain unbeaten at the top of Division 3. Sometimes during the season you are going to get games where conditions are bad, good football is not possible, moves just don't come off and a home side fight like tigers and where simply grinding out a result is the order of the day, Friday was such an occasion.
In a swirling cross-wind which was always going to bring about a low scoring match the lads led by 0-6 to 0-3 at HT. The second half saw only a further point added by our visiting team as too much ball was given away easily and when chances were presented they were not taken. Not a great night but it could have been a defeat given Downings second half grit and determination. Lets be positive though....we've now played below ourselves against Milford and Na Dúnaibh in the past few weeks but both games were away from home and we've got 3 points out of 4 and remain unbeaten and on top of the league. The league is now over a third way through and we sit in a strong position to push on for promotion.Naomh Muire: 1. SEAN GALLAGHER 2. JC MULHOLLAND 3. THOMAS DUFFY 4. The under 8s had an enjoyable day at their first blitz of the year in Gaothdobhair today. Naomh Mhuire entered 3 teams with a squad of 32. All 3 teams had 2 games each so all players had plenty of game time. A total of 12 players made their debut in club colours today and played great stuff. It was again encouraging to see great support from parents and help from coaches to help the day run smoothly. The teams that competed against us today were Gaothdobhair, Termon and Clochaneely. Thanks to Gaoth Dobhair for hosting the blitz and to the referees on the day. Well done to all involved. U16 Girls. Click on image for larger picture In preperation for their league campaign which gets underway next month, the under 16 girls hosted Naomh Columba in a challenge game. The game was a one-sided affair and the girls would have taken little from the match except from a run-out together. Tougher games lie ahead in the summer. The under 16s will play a challenge game away to Termon on Sunday. Throw-in time is 12pm and the bus will leave the car park at 10.45.
