Hard luck t our U-17 girls who bowed out at the semi-final stages of the All-Ireland U-17 competition in Galway yesterday evening. After the heroics of earlier in the day, winning 3 games on the trot, Claregalway proved to be a stiffer challenge for our young girls. With most of out girls only 15 & 16 years old we will be back next year again to challenge for the title. We are mighty proud of our young team and their mentors agus beidh muid ar ais! The outgoing Chair Shaun Rodgers opened the meeting and welcomed everyone who was in attendance.Out going Secretary Mary Doherty gave a very comphrensive report on the 2013 season, highlighting the great numbers of girls we have now registered to play for our club and the great spirit of working together for the good of our club. A wee bit of sadness on the night was that Mary stepped down as secretary as with a very heavy work load she felt she could not give the job 100% but she will still work a committee member. Excellent reports from the Cisteoir and chair. A lot of ground covered on the night. At the conclusion of tonights meeting and a new year ahead! Quote from Shaun Rodgers, Chair of the ladies board - " Great to see a good turnout, we're looking forward to all of the challenges that 2014 will present and with the introduction of an adult team, I am delighted that we have achieved our goal of providing an unbroken chain of football from under 10s to Adult, well done to all involved in the ladies board, tá bliain mhór romhain agus tá súil agam go gcoinnóidh muid leis an obair mhaith" Naomh Muire Peil na mBan AGM was held on Friday 17th January. The Ladies Board presentation is taking place on Friday 6th December at 6.30pm with certificates and awards we are asking all girls to be there at 6.30pm sharp. Early start today for this game in Maghregallan and it was
St. Eunans who started the brightest and at half time we trailed by 2-06 to 3pts going into the break. Eunans dominated the first half, but our girls never say die attitude kept their spirits up and in the second half the fightback began for the throw in. While our girls camped in side Eunans 45 for the second half,we just could not get the big scores to win the match and in the end with some heroic effort from our girls the clock ran out with St'Eunans emerging victorious. While we left Maghregallan losing this final, the effort by our young girls was never in question and we are mighty proud of everyone one of you. Big thanks to Robbie, John Mac, Marion and Eileen and the crew for their work with this great wee team and the words of our younger girls while having their much earned tea and biscuits after the match was, "We Will be Back" and of that their is no doubt with these girls! In the short space of a few years of Ladies football in the Club it is a big achievement to be in a Minor final at such an early stage in development of the Ladies board. To make a final against a team such as St Eunan's means that the pressure is all on the Letterkenny side and therefore the young Tigress's from the Lower Rosses will go into this match giving it their all. The attitude and determination of this side over the years has been an inspiration and we wish both management and team all the best on Sunday. We urge all supporters to make it a day on the road with the Minor Final at 11am in Gaoth Dobhair and the Senior Play-off against McCumhaills in Glenswilly at 2pm. County Ladies Minor Semi Final: Naomh Muire 5-11 V Aodh Rua 2-02
A truly outstanding performance by the young Naomh Muire side against the mighty Aodh Rua Ballyshannon played this morning in Killygordon. The girls dominated throughout to get into the Clubs first Minor County Final. This is a great achievement and yet another big day out for the club and community as we look forward to another County Final. Could this be the start of a great day with the Ladies heading to Derry now to cheer on the Seniors. |
