A valuable two points away from home by the lads against a St Naul's side who were sitting in the top 4 position going into this match in Mountcharles. Going into the game minus Owenie McGarvey and Thomas Duffy, with Adi O Gara carrying an injury which later forced him off was always going to be a battle and a blistering start which saw Naomh Muire net twice was the ruthless start that was required.
Controlling the game from defence right through the middle, the lads played some really impressive football combining quick breaks from defence with great link play and brilliant finishing. St Nauls struggled to contain the visitors and Naomh Muire led 2-06 to 0-04 at half time. As was expected- St Nauls came out all guns blazing in the second half and took the game to Naomh Muire scoring 0-5 without reply. Naomh Muire were very slow to settle back into the match but in fairness did enough to minimise a very dominant St Nauls effort which at times looked like taking complete control of a match they were out of. Although the lads only scored 0-3 in the second half - these were crucial scores at crucial times. Very much a game of two halves - but on analysis Naomh Muire did enough in the second half to dig out a result and preserve their lead. Overall- the entire team lifted it when St Nauls came back within a score and it was Naomh Muire who finished the strong collecting two points on the road. Well done to all involved. The Reserves, fielding a much weakened side with many players missing for several reasons...were well beaten today by a strong St Naul's outfit. This is only a minor set-back as the reserves have been impressive to date and of course are now seeing some of that squad step up to bolster the Senior panel. |
