Naomh Mhuire - All Ireland Champions 2011 Soiséair Comortas Peile na Gaeltachta. What a victory!!!! With 8 minutes left and trailing by 5 points most teams would be content to play out the match in the knowledge that it maybe was not your day. Then their County Goalkeeper saves point blank denying us the much needed goal....you sort of... accept that Laochrach Loch Láo from Béal Feirste are destined to win their first ever title. But no....this is Naomh Mhuire 2011 style they are playing, a team that the previous day grabbed victory from the jaws of defeat against Galway Champions Clonbur. One point brings a roar and an ounce of hope....a second point brings it a bit closer but the time is running out...then we get a majestic third without reply....there is now two points in it but the clock say 3 minutes left and the crafty Belfast men are pulling every stunt in the book to waste time. The body language of the Beál Feirste lads changes....they are losing kick outs to the Donegal lads.......the Naomh Mhuire support in their hundreds lift the skys with noise and encouragement.....then it happens before we get time to breath in the stands......One point more leaves a point in it but again the Reiteoir looks at his watch....then the equaliser and as long as we draw breath on this great earth....we'll never again witness the energy flow into these young lads. An equaliser meant that extra time would be played but no....these lads want to finish it off....now......a long ball, a short ball....Shaun J Boyle is within range ....bang....over the bar.....one up.....and no minutes left. Laochrach Loch Laoi's time wasting tactics had now rebounded on them.....but Naomh Mhuire were never going to allow this slip and they took control until Reiteoir Paddy Mac Giolla Bhríde blew the whistle which would see this All-Ireland return through the Mines to the two Parishes of Anagaire agus Ceann Caslach. It's very difficult to put in words anything which comes anywhere near to describe the victory. Many from the area who coulnd't be in Falcarragh....were in Falcarragh in spirit. Family members ,Fans, club members, locals, were sending texts, facebook messages and calls....this day is a much yours away from home as it is to those who were at the match.....and those who were at the match.....helped to win that match by lifting the lads in their time of need....the noise for that winning point will take a while to repeat anywhere. Apart from naming the winning scorer it would be wrong to start mentioning names of players...because this was a trojan team effort where everyone threw in their blood and sweat....The Club Committee, The Team Management, The Hero players, those in the background, the supporters, the friends who couldn't be here.... ....and I'll finish by mentioning one person who has allowed everyone to see on facebook....all that was great and good about Naomh Mhuire over the weekend through her outstanding photographs which mean so much to so many all over the World.......Bríd Sweeney....go raibh míle maith agat.
