![]() Tonight's Division 1 Final finished all square! In terrible conditions in Dunkineely tonight it was a game of two halves. Naomh Muire, playing against the wind and driving rain, trailed by nine points at half time. A wonderful second half performance seen them gradually reduce the deficit until they eventually took the lead with time running out. The last score of the game was an equalising point for Aodh Ruadh from a 14 yard fee. Conditions tonight were too bad to allow for extra time. The games goes to a replay! From Lower Rosses Mayor...... What a comeback. These young hero's were 2-06 to 0-3 down at HT having endured a late Aodh Rua goal just before the break with the Ballyshannon lads playing with a strong wind. Naomh Mhuire played well enough against the elements but the late goal looked to be enough to see an Aodh Rua win. However, those who have watched the heart of this team in recent weeks knew that the game was still in the mix as Naomh Mhuire ran onto the field for the second half. What happened in the next 30 minutes was a lesson not only in football but indeed in life that nothing is over until its over. Point by point, tackle by tackle and pass by pass, the lads worked their way back into the match roared on by a big Naomh Mhuire support. Unreal scores by Hugh Boyle (Yank), long range efforts and a great goal by Shaun Mc Cafferty and a great point by young Jack Boyle were amoung the crucial scores needed. With three minutes left....the unbelievable happened and Naomh Mhuire nosed into a one point lead and it looked like the first ever Div 1 Championship trophy was on its was to the Banks. However with time practically up Aodh Rua were awarded a free on the 13 metre line and it was pointed to bring the match all square. Referee Michael Mc Shane correctly judged that there was not enough daylight left to play extra time so the game goes to a Replay in Dunkineely again on Friday night. Its a sign of where the Club in general has come to when we are leaving a ground unhappy and not beating a team with a tradition like Aodh Rua in a final. Lets get all the crew out again on Friday night ...great support there tonight. Well done Gary, Sean and lads. Comments are closed.
