Well done to the girls under 14 team who beat Naomh Conaill this evening in the Banks. Both of these teams finished joint-top of their league section after a draw a couple of weeks ago. Tonight it was winner takes all to see who goes through to the semi-final. The first half was evenly matched and every ball was fought for between these 2 evenly matched sides. It was Naomh Mhuire who went in at half-time with a 2 point lead after a low-scoring 1st half. Our girls led by 1-01 to 0-02 and could have been further ahead only for the cross-bar with a shot from Amy Hannah. Naomh Mhuire's goal came from Kate Gillespie. In the 2nd half Naomh Mhuire moved up a gear and took control of the game and began to dominate. However our girls were struggling to put the ball over the bar. The game was being played in Glenties half and sooner or later the pressure had to tell. And so it did with 2 points from Amy Hannah to open up the lead to 4 points. The defence were in outstanding form with Nicole Boyle and Tara Harley unbeatable in the full-back line, Claire Sweeney and Sarah Doherty mopping up balls on the 45 and Sarah o Gara starting to win the ball as well at centre-half back. Aoife mc Garvey gave a great display at mid-field and Katie o Donnell put in another tigerish display along-side her. Our forwards didn't play as well tonight as they can but im sure the next day out they will be scoring from all angles. The girls are now through to the County A semi-final which could be played next Tuesday evening. This young team will be hoping to get to the final and have a shot at regaining the title the under 14s won last season to keep the trophy in the banks for another year. Well done to all the girls.
