Division 3
The next league fixture is away to Buncrana this Saturday evening. A full list of fixtures is shown below. Please note that there is a change of time for the Naomh Muire game with the reserves throwing in at 5:00 p.m. and the seniors out at 6:30 p.m. The under 16s played a challenge away to MacCumhaills on Tuesday evening in preparation for the championship next week. A good physical game against a big MacCumhaills team with the referee letting things go and letting the teams get stuck into each other which was good to see. Our lads made plenty of mistakes tonight and showed a bit of rustiness having not played for a number of weeks. The final score was MacCumhaills 3-05 Naomh Mhuire 1-09. The score was not important and our lads showed they could match the home team throughout the match and compete with them physically. It was good to get a game on the county pitch and dust off a few cob-webs before the championship. Thanks to MacCumhaills for the game and we look forward to hosting you in the banks at a later date.
Well done to the Naomh Mhuire U-12s who beat Aodh Rua tonight in the Banks in the Go Games series. This young team have been training well in recent weeks and were full value for their victory against a Club with a strong tradition in turning out good under-age sides.
The Under 10s head to Magheragallon on Wednesday evening for a 7pm throw in against Gaoth Dobhair in a friendly match. Gaoth Dobhair are heading to the National Community games and we are playing a friendly match against them to help their preparations. Bus leaves Annagry Car park at 6pm. The under 16s will have a challenge game against Maccumhaills on Tuesday evening in Ballybofey. The game will be played on the county ground and will throw-in at 6pm. The bus will leave Annagry at 4.15 and all players are asked to bring their gloves. This game is in preparation for the champonship against Kilcar the following week.
The senior team continued on their winning ways this evening with another good victory over Milford. Played on a lovely Summer's evening the home team played into the bakery end in the first half. The wind that was present duing the reserve game had died down and any that remained favoured the visiting team in the first half. Naomh Muire started well and notched some good early points to take a deserved lead, going 0-06 to 0-02 up after 13 minutes. Milford then struck with their first goal to reduce the defecit to one point middway through the first half. The home team once again got into their stride and with some excellent work by Owen Grant and Ciaran McGinley in fine form with the frees, they edged ahead again (0-09 to 1-03). Milford then netted to even matters. Naomh Muire responded with a point to leave the half time scoreNaomh Muire 0-10 Milford 2-03.
Despite the concession of two goals Naomh Muire remained focused and continued to cause trouble each time they attacked. Ciaran McGinley was once again on target as he streched the lead with some fine scores, some of which were long range efforts. The game was finished as a contest when a high ball in was flicked on and Tom McHugh, having gambled correctly was in to score low and hard to the corner of the Milford net. An excellent team performance which keeps Naomh Muire unbeated this seaon and on top of division 3. NAOMH MUIRE 1. Sean Gallagher 2. Robert O'Donnell 3. Thomas Duffy 4. Daniel Gallagher 5. Reserve Game Naomh Muire 3-17 Milford 3-05 In the earlier game the reserve team had another excellent win when they ran out comfortable winners on a scoreline of Naomh Muire 3-17 Milford 3-05. With both Match day keeper Conor Deveney and Shane Greene not available, club referee Robbie O Donnell stepped into goals for the reserve team this evening. With Johnny Gallgher playing up front this team certainly has a good mixture of youth and experience on board. Well done to all involved. Naomh Muire 1. Robert O'Donnell Snr 2. T. Devenney 3. H. Tommy Stevenson, Armagh GAA Core strength and conditioning coach had a session with the Naomh Mhuire Under 16s and underage coaches at 9am this morning attended by over 30 young lads. At 11am nearly 40 under 8s had a coaching hour on the new training field...the first group to use this new facility. This training field will be a huge help in the years ahead in developing our youth. Also at 11am we hosted an Under 10 blitz with Ardara and Naomh Ultan GAA clubs taking part along with our own team. Our young lads and girls did really well today and are improving greatly with each blitz and training session. In total, that was over 100 young players from the area participating in Gaelic games, coaching sessions etc from 9am. Over 12 coaches were involved along with a catering team of 6 and our 3 referees. This level of committment is an absolute credit to all involved. The under 10s had a great day in the banks at their home blitz today. Ardara and Naomh Ultan were the visiting teams on the day. Naomh Mhuire had 33 players and 3 teams on the day and all 3 teams put in brilliant performances. To mention names would not be fair today as everyone played their part and done what they were asked to do. However Naomh Mhuire's stand-out performer today was Fionan mac Ruairí who won loads of ball in defence and passed every ball to his team-mate. Well done. Well done goes to their coaches who work with them, namely Aidi, Tom, Joe and Charlie. Thanks to Ardara and Naomh Ultan who travelled today. Thanks to the ladies in the kitchen who helped out on the day. The under 10s next game is this Wednesday evening where they travel to Gaoth Dobhair for 3 games. Well done to the girls under 14 team who beat Naomh Conaill this evening in the Banks. Both of these teams finished joint-top of their league section after a draw a couple of weeks ago. Tonight it was winner takes all to see who goes through to the semi-final. The first half was evenly matched and every ball was fought for between these 2 evenly matched sides. It was Naomh Mhuire who went in at half-time with a 2 point lead after a low-scoring 1st half. Our girls led by 1-01 to 0-02 and could have been further ahead only for the cross-bar with a shot from Amy Hannah. Naomh Mhuire's goal came from Kate Gillespie. In the 2nd half Naomh Mhuire moved up a gear and took control of the game and began to dominate. However our girls were struggling to put the ball over the bar. The game was being played in Glenties half and sooner or later the pressure had to tell. And so it did with 2 points from Amy Hannah to open up the lead to 4 points. The defence were in outstanding form with Nicole Boyle and Tara Harley unbeatable in the full-back line, Claire Sweeney and Sarah Doherty mopping up balls on the 45 and Sarah o Gara starting to win the ball as well at centre-half back. Aoife mc Garvey gave a great display at mid-field and Katie o Donnell put in another tigerish display along-side her. Our forwards didn't play as well tonight as they can but im sure the next day out they will be scoring from all angles. The girls are now through to the County A semi-final which could be played next Tuesday evening. This young team will be hoping to get to the final and have a shot at regaining the title the under 14s won last season to keep the trophy in the banks for another year. Well done to all the girls. Photos available in gallery (ladies/U14 girls section). DONEGAL senior football captain Michael Murphy has been cleared to play in Sunday week’s Ulster semi final against Tyrone after the Central Hearings Committee upheld Donegal’s appeal against the Glenswilly man’s sending off last weekend.
